I'm sure you've seen the Exhaust Jack or X-Jack in pictures or magazines. But is it a gimmick? Or is this a worth while recovery tool? There certainly seems to be more benefit with this style jack for use in soft sand recovery. It offers a large footprint which allows it to lift without sinking. This jack is essentially a cylinder shaped air bag. It can be inflated by connecting a hose to your exhaust or air compressor. The air bag inflates under the vehicle to lift it off the ground.

This is an excellent video demonstrating the vintage Toyota Land Cruiser off road systems and tips. You'll learn about the basic 4WD systems and how to use them. Plus, you'll get a basic off road training session on how to drive your vehicle off road. They show how to perform water crossings, rock crawling and basic recovery. It's fun to see these vintage Toyotas driving off road.

This is an impressive video clip! I think this guy is crazy. This Suzuki guy tries to cross a river and floats down stream and has to be pulled out. You'd think he'd quit after that. Nope... Instead, he does it again! This time he is successful and makes it to the opposite bank.

Apparently, crossing the river wasn't the objective though. A few seconds later you see him floating back down the river backwards towards some rapids. Unfortunately, the video ends before his Suzuki rolls over and the driver drowns... ...

The Mitsubishi Pajero has over 25 years experience racing the Dakar Rally. The Dakar Rally a desert race through Africa and over 5,000 miles in length. Many refer to this as the most difficult off road race in the world. Mitsubishi has won over 12 Dakar Rallys which is an incredible record. No other vehicle manufacturer comes close! The four wheel drive system and off road durability of the Pajero/Montero is world class.

Ever thought about driving on water? Well... Top Gear takes on the challenge. They are going to drive a buggy in Iceland across a lake. The theory is that with enough speed, power and aggressive tires the buggy would skip across the water. And... It worked! The next challenge was racing against a snow machine. These guys are nuts. The plan was to wheel, camp, wheel and head home but the weather got the better of us. As we were driving toward the trailhead the clouds opened up enough for us to see fresh snow across the valley and then we saw fresh snow on the mountain above us. At first I was stoked about how nice it looked but Peter brought me crashing back to reality when he reminded us how much harder the trails were going to be. ...

Some may recall the somewhat classic Ford Bronco II which was originally released in 1984. This little SUV was quite capable off road with its 94 inch wheelbase and narrow 68 inch width. The early models were carbureted until 1986 when the EFI 2.9L V6 was introduced.

Unfortunately, there was an higher than average accident roll over rate which gave the the Bronco II bad publicity. There were also numerous law suits which lead to poor sales and eventually the demise of this fun, capable SUV.
