April 6, 2013 - Oregon - High Rocks Adventure!

We met in Estacada at the Shell Gas station and headed out on schedule. Our destination was High Rocks which is around 5,000 foot in elevation which meant snow would be inevitable. The question was... Could we make it? ...

I posted a last-minute trip to hit up TSF on Saturday, since it looked like a relatively nice weekend and I wanted to get out for some nice, easy trail riding. Mike Weiler said he was in, set the meet time for 10 am at the Shell station, and in the morning I loaded up the recovery gear and my dog and headed over to the Shell station in Gales Creek.

At 10:30, still no sign of Mike. I texted him, waited, called him, waited...no reply. Finally, at about 10:45 I texted Traci, to ...

The coast to coast road trip across America came about when my brother Sam received his honorable discharge from the Army. He had served 4 years in active duty including a "tour" in Afghanistan and was finally free! We had talked on the phone about his plan to drive across country in his Mitsubishi Montero stuffed full of his belongings to Oregon. He thought it would be more fun to have someone to travel with. Well, it has been one year and a week sense I purchased my brand new 2012 Tacoma TRD and I figured I would post my thoughts. I traded off my 2006 Dodge Power Wagon and for an off road truck this thing was a BEAST!! I REALLY liked the Power Wagon but could not afford to drive the thing when I was averaging just over 10mpg and gas was flirting with $4.00/gal!

The Forest Services has announced that the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Ochoco Summit Trail System project on the Ochoco National Forest is now available for public review and comment. The proposed action in this EIS includes designation of a 170-mile motorized trail system, including separate areas designed for use by Class I (ATVs), Class II (jeeps and 4x4s) and Class III (motorcycles) vehicles.
