February 16, 2019 | Oregon | Olallie Lake Snow Run

    When: February 16, 2019 - Saturday.
Where to Meet: 220 D St, Detroit, OR 97342 - Mountain High Grocery
Meeting time: 9:00am. We will try to leave by 9:15 or so.

Plan to meet at the parking lot across the street from the grocery store. There is gas available about 150 yards to the north at the intersection of Brietenbush rd. (Rd. 46)

    Permits Required: OHV
    Communication: CB, Ham 146.460.

Assuming we have enough participants this year, we will head up the 46 road to the 4220 and split into 2 groups and hopefully/possibly meet at the lake. This is all variable depending on the amount of snow we encounter. The past two years show how much that can vary year to year. Plus, we will be a little later in the season this year. (past two years report links below)

Trail Plan: Group 1 will attempt to take the 46 road to the 4690 to the 4220 and reach the lake from the north. Max elevation is roughly 5000’. (at the lake)
Group 2 will attempt to take the 4220 road to reach the lake from the south. Max elevation is roughly 5600’.

    Group 1 Vehicle Requirements:
Some lift recommended, Traction tires required, tow points front and rear. Jack w/ full size spare. Shovel. Winch recommended.

    Group 2 Vehicle requirements:
A minimum of 33″ mud terrain tires with good tread. At least 1 locker (2 lockers recommended). Good ground clearance. Tow points front and rear. Jack w/ full size spare. A winch is a good idea. If you don't have a winch then you must have a Shovel and know how to use it.

    General requirements:
Read the RULES FOR EVENT PARTICIPATION! Bring your shovel, tow/snatch straps and a chain saw if you have one. Recovery points front and rear are a must! Bring extra food, water and clothes is case things don’t go as planned. You should be prepared to spend the night in the woods as a worst case scenario. Items like a warm sleeping bag and wood to start a fire are always a good idea.

If you haven’t been on a snow run lately, read these to know what to expect:

Looking forward to the run, thanks a bunch Robin for leading this! Alex, my 6 yr old son, will be with me. Anyone else bringing their little ones on this run? We'll likely bring a sled with us to take advantage of any stops along the way to play.

There is no best vehicle. It depends on the terrain, tires, driver, luck, and lots of happenstance.
